First Book has developed unique opportunities for corporate partners to support First Book’s Springboard to STEM program while also meeting their corporate social responsibility goals. Through the programs listed below, First Book can provide new STEM resources to thousands of students, ages 0-18, nationwide or in key markets. In addition, support from corporate partners helps to expand First Book’s network of the schools and programs that so desperately need these resources.
- Inventory development. First Book will grow the STEM content section on the First Book Marketplace to better serve students ages 0-18. In addition to books, First Book looks to secure digital resources that expand learning opportunities for students and teachers. For example, downloadable lesson plans, interactive STEM activities, and on-mission educational games could be available to First Book’s network of registered schools and programs through the First Book STEM site.
- Network expansion. First Book currently provides free and low-cost educational resources to a network of more than 27,000 schools and community-based programs serving children from low-income families. Although First Book is proud of that number, it’s only a small fraction of the estimated over 1.2 million school classrooms and programs that First Book could be serving.
Partners have the opportunity to champion this effort by sponsoring First Book registration drives. Registration drives provide eligible organizations with credits that will allow them to purchase STEM titles through the First Book Marketplace. Each organization that receives a book award will become permanently connected to First Book’s pipeline of free and low-cost resources.
- Volunteer engagement. First Book recognizes the importance of engaging employees and providing different ways for them to become involved. First Book’s employee giving campaign, the Virtual Book Drive, is an online donation campaign that takes the classic book drive and incorporates technology and branding to engage participants and maximize donations.
The customized virtual book drive is hosted by First Book, complete with partner messaging, content related to the campaign and results from the partnership. Virtual Book Drives are a fun, engaging way for employees to support literacy.
In 2010, First Book generated close to $300,000 through Virtual Book Drivesand distributed approximately 150,000 new books to children in need.
